Preservation

Over the years we have worked with clients as diverse as the Organization of American Historians, the Minnesota Historical Society, the National Park Service, and the Department of Defense. The key to a National Register of Historic Places or a National Historic Landmark nomination is found in the story of its significance. Just being an old building isn't enough.

That's where our skills as historians help us develop the case — careful research of the facts, then taking a step back to gain perspective as to why it is important. We have documented nationally-significant historic sites such as the Strategic Air Command underground command post at Offutt Air Force Base and written the National Historic Landmark nomination for the U.S. Air Force Academy (right). Still, our favorite projects are the ones that help small towns and short-handed historical organizations to preserve their past — places like the Komensky School in rural McLeod County, the State School for Dependent Children in Owatonna, and Oakwood Cemetery (left) in Red Wing.
